Settling in

Starting out in a new College and a new City can be daunting. We are experienced at putting new students at their ease and helping them find their way around easily. The welcome process includes:

  • good pre-arrival communication - with details about your accommodation, programme of study, start dates and timetable
  • facilities for you to contact your parents when you arrive
  • a welcome induction, campus tour and tutor introduction
  • clear classroom directions throughout the College
  • a good programme of extra-curricular activities to help you make friends quickly.

Getting to know you

We hope our welcome process ensures a smooth transition from home to college life, but our concern in your welfare doesn't stop after the first few days!

Throughout your time with us we keep in close contact with you to ensure we get to know you well. We will celebrate your successes and provide confidential support if you have any problems.

This is achieved through:

  • daily Personal Tutor contact, to track your progress and deal with any issues that arise
  • regular communication with parents and guardians
  • experience in special learning needs such as dyslexia
  • issues identified quickly through regular supervision and contact
  • 24-hour emergency assistance.

For international students, we will also help with:

  • airport transfers (if requested)
  • banking and pocket money
  • visa renewal
  • police registration
  • registering you with a Doctor
  • advice on local religious and cultural organisations.

Important documentation

For an informed start to the new term our student handbooks provide all the information you need about the College, the campus and our people. You will be given a copy of this when you arrive at the College.

Student Pre-Arrival Information

Read our latest Pre-Arrival Information to reassure you before you arrive.

Parental concerns

The college has detailed policies relating to bullying, child protection, health and safety, the promotion of good behaviour, and sanctions adopted in the event of pupils misbehaving and you may ask to read such policies and codes of conduct as contained in our Student Handbook.

Whilst we hope a very rare occurrence, our Parental Concerns Leaflet provides contact details and information on the College Complaints Policy and Procedures.

Information regarding the number of complaints lodged can be found here.

In the past academic year we have had no parental complaints that have led to a panel hearing.

Additional Educational Needs

The College accepts students with Additional Educational Needs subject to receiving professional evaluation in order to ensure that appropriate provision can be made for the student.
